The Southern California Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) college tour field trip was a collaborative event between West Prep High School and UNLV GEAR UP Partnership. During the fall 2017 semester, forty-seven participants traveled to Southern California to tour the campuses of California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) and California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). The goal of the field trip was to increase the number of students who expect to graduate from high school and enroll in college.

At CSU Dominguez Hills, GEAR UP participants learned about the college admission process and were given a tour of the main campus which included the library, college of education, diversity center, and student union buildings. After the tour, students ate lunch and the bus proceeded to CSU San Bernardino. Upon arriving, chaperones divided students into small groups and completed a scavenger hunt that involved looking for certain buildings and departments on campus, such as the recreation and wellness, library, college of education and natural sciences. The participants enjoyed exploring the campus on their own, asking college students and staff for information and learning details about the campus and the university. When the scavenger hunt concluded, the participants were given a guided tour of the dorms and ate lunch at the dining commons.
