Desert Pines seniors fill out the FAFSA to qualify for scholarships for college

The senior class counselors at Desert Pines High School introduced a scholarship focus initiative for the 2017-2018 academic year. The UNLV TRIO Educational Talent Search and Upward Bound Math & Science Center programs at Desert Pines have played a key role in this initiative by ensuring students have applied to a postsecondary institution and assisting students fill out the FAFSA.

The 2017-2018 senior class population is 566. Of the 566 seniors, 417 have submitted applications for the College of Southern Nevada Promise Scholarship. This scholarship helps students pay for up to three years of registration and mandatory fees at CSN. If the Desert Pines counseling department continues this scholarship application focus, the 2018 graduating class will have received the most scholarship dollars awarded in the school’s history.
