Women Warriors, a comprehensive mentoring program at Western High School, focuses on community service, college awareness, academic intervention, self-esteem, etiquette, and the female identity.
During the fall semester, eleven Women Warriors traveled to the Cecile Walnut Pre-Development Recreation Center and volunteered their time with preschool students in the Head Start Program. This program promotes school readiness of children from birth to age five to low-income families by enhancing their cognitive, social, and emotional development. Women Warriors assisted the students with craft projects, lead story time and spent time with the kids. This activity was not only an opportunity for Women Warriors to give back to their community, they also received hands-on experience in the field of early education.
