Through the efforts of his immigrant mother moving from Haiti to pursue the American dream and provide basic necessities, Gregory Noel quickly learned the meaning of hard work and perseverance. He moved to Las Vegas, Nevada from Miami, Florida to complete his high school education at Rancho High School. There, he was able to overcome his struggle with obesity by joining the football team at the end of his freshman year. This opportunity not only provided him the means of living a healthier lifestyle, but it also fostered a new perspective on how to approach life’s difficulties. Gregory’s participation in the Medical Academy program at Rancho nurtured his passion to help others. Gregory graduated in 2009 with an advanced high school diploma and a 3.7 GPA.
With the assistance from his TRIO Educational Talent Search (ETS) academic counselors at Rancho High School, Gregory was admitted into Dixie State University (DSU) to pursue a degree in psychology. While at DSU, Gregory was afforded many scholarship and mentoring opportunities. Gregory graduated in May 2013 with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology. Upon graduating, he was extended the opportunity to represent DSU in the Las Vegas region, as their regional recruiter.
Gregory attributes the TRIO Educational Talent Search program with assisting him with applying to college, meeting deadlines, and finding ways to pay for his college education. Gregory states, “TRIO helped to open doors and provide opportunities that I didn’t know existed.” Gregory has since accepted a position as an admission advisor at Weber State University. In this capacity, he is able to help students in situations similar to his own, realize that college is not only an option, but a resource for those who desire to improve their circumstances in life.
