Ramon Woods Denby
Ramon Woods Denby was born and raised in Las Vegas along with his nine siblings, including his twin sister who is an associate professor at UNLV. Ramon participated in the Upward Bound Program from 1982 to 1985. He graduated from Western High School and Ramon began his college education at UNLV. He later transferred to San Diego State University (SDSU) where he studied Political Science. After attending SDSU, Ramon joined the United States Marine Corp in 1987.
During his six years of service to the United States Marine Corp, some of Ramon’s tours of duty included Southwest Asia, the Persian Gulf and a special assignment in Afghanistan. A Persian Gulf War Combat Veteran, Ramon served valiantly with the Third Marine Expeditionary Brigade. Stateside duties included the Naval Air Station in Millington, Tennessee, the Marine Air Station in El Torro, California and the Marine Corp base at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California.
Upon receipt of an honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corp, Ramon came back to Las Vegas where he would further his career in public service. Ramon joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 1994 as a Corrections Officer. Ramon, known as Detective Denby to many, hopes to use his current career in law enforcement as a vehicle to help others and to serve as a positive role model for young people. Ramon feels blessed to have his beautiful and loving wife, Jackie, and his four children: Kiev, Natalie, Kyi and Ramon II. Ramon and his wife are near the final stages of adopting his great niece Dejoria and two great nephews Ronnie and Antonio. Ramon is active in ministry and church leadership at his home church, Mountaintop Faith Ministries.
